چکیده مقاله:
Objective(s): It has been proposed that lipid markers may predict cardiovascular events; however, their effect may vary depending on the type of cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of lipid markers on death from coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke in competing risks setting.Materials and Methods: Participants included 2502 women and 2020 men, age 40 years or older from Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study. The association between total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) with hazard and cumulative incidence of CHD and stroke was investigated using cause-specific hazard and sub-distribution hazard models. Statistical analyses were performed using “risk regression” and “cmprsk” package in R 3.3.2.Results: One standard deviation (SD) increase in TC and LDL-C increased the hazard of CHD death by 1.42 (CI=1.07,1.89) and 1.41 (CI=1.04,1.93), respectively. 1-SD increase in TG increased the cumulative incidence of CHD death increased by 1.94 (CI=1.02,3.75) in women. Other risk factors were not associated with the hazard and cumulative incidence of CHD in women, men and the total sample. In addition, none of lipids had a significant effect on the hazard and cumulative incidence of stroke in men, women and the total sample. Conclusion: The associations of lipid components on CHD death were modified by gender. TC, LDL-C and TG were independent predictors of CHD mortality in women. Furthermore, death due to stroke changes the association of lipid markers with CHD mortality.

Coffee consumption and coronary heart disease mortality in Scottish men: a 21 year follow up study.
The effects of coffee consumption on coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality remain uncertain. Recent meta-analyses"2 have produced equivocal findings, with weaker associations being seen in cohort than in case-control studies. Data regarding potential confounding factors have often been limited in these earlier studies. We have examined this issue in a large prospective study with a long follow...
متن کاملCardiothoracic ratio and relative heart volume as predictors of coronary heart disease mortality. The Whitehall study 25 year follow-up.
AIM To examine the association of radiographic measures of heart size with mortality from coronary heart disease. METHODS AND RESULTS One thousand, one hundred and ninety-one male civil servants aged 40-69 years were followed-up for mortality over 25 years in relation to cardiothoracic ratio and relative heart volume. A high cardiothoracic ratio and relative heart volume predicted coronary (n...

A 23-year follow-up study of 10,059 40- to 65-year-old participants in the Israeli Ischemic Heart Disease Study found that of 3473 deaths (34.5%), in 1098 (10.9%) coronary heart disease (CHD) was the underlying cause. Total serum cholesterol (TC) was measured in 9902 individuals. During the study, CHD mortality was elevated primarily in individuals in quintiles 4 and 5 (TC levels greater than o...
متن کاملLate-life coronary heart disease mortality of Finnish war veterans in the TAMRISK study, a 28-year follow-up
BACKGROUND Wartime stress has been associated with increased late-life mortality of all causes of death. We evaluated whether wounded Finnish World War II veterans who were alive at the age of 55 have increased long-term coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality. METHODS Health survey data were recorded in 1980 from 667 men, aged 55 years. Of them 102 had been wounded or injured in action during...

A follow-up study of coronary heart disease (CHD) was carried out among adults in Delhi 3 years after an initial community-based epidemiological survey of the same population. A total of 575 of the 814 cases of CHD detected clinically and by electrocardiogram (ECG) in the initial survey took part. On re-examination of the original cohort of 4151 adults who were free of CHD both clinically and b...

Background: Anatomically myocardial bridging (MB) consists of either superficial myocardial fibers that traverse over the LAD or deep fibers that encircle the coronary artery. In this study, we present a patient with myocardial bridging, who was primarily diagnosed with coronary artery disease which did not properly respond to full-dose medical treatment but benefited from coronary artery bypas...
